SoundJack Guide

updated 5 November 2020

Who is this guide for?

This guide is an attempt at a comprehensive English language end user manual for using SoundJack. It covers a wide range of use cases and the multiple steps that might be required to set up the system in your home or on a campus local area network (LAN). This document seeks to gather in one place the best practices known in November of 2020. Please keep in mind that it is a living document, and will be out of date as soon as it is published. Check www.ianhowellcountertenor.com frequently for updates.

If you wish to gain a total command of SoundJack—to understand it in detail as I do—I strongly recommend reading start to finish and working your way through with the app and website open in front of you. If you are set up and ready to dive in, please jump to Selecting your session settings: Beginner/advance/expert and Optimizing SoundJack Connections. Those sections get to the practical information most users need to get the most out of SoundJack. This document was also organized to function as a reference guide appropriate to dip in and out of, and I recommend you use the table of contents and/or search function to find specific answers as problems present themselves. You will find specific user guides in the Appendices that we use in the low latency rooms at NEC. These guides presume that the user has access to the Stage, and concisely address how to set various buffers to quickly get online and making music.

Please check back in the coming days as I transfer the document to html here. Until then, feel free to use the PDF of v0.9 above.
